"You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea." That what Medgar Evers had said before being assassinated by a segregationist. So who was that man with these inspirational words and how he was assassinated? How people react to the assassination? And What was the impact of it on society at the time? Medgar Evers grew up in a Mississippi farming family, the third of five children. He served in the US Army during World War II and was honorably discharged as a sergeant. Moreover he enrolled at Alcorn State University then he became a husband to his fellow student Myrlie Beasley; they later had three children: Darrell, Reena, and James. Later, he moved to nearby Mound Bayon and became the organization's first field secretary in the state in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). 9 Years later, Evers found himself the target of a number of threats. On June 12,1963 , while Evers was returning from a meeting with NAACP lawyers, he was struck in the back with a bullet that ripped through his heart by a Ku Klux Klan member. …show more content…
