Most people in the Crucible have problems with wanting to protect their reputation. There are three people who want to conserve their reputation/ name.
One was John Proctor, he wanted to protect his name because he has done so many bad things in his life that he regrets. He has never thought he was good enough for anything. He committed adultery with Abigail and betrayed Elizabeth Proctor. He has never thought he was good enough for anything to do with Elizabeth after committing that crime he never thought he was good enough for a lot. He did a lot of wrong, people judged him for a lot and one reason was because he plowed his field on Sunday. That is not viewed as christian like they took it as him working for the devil because …show more content…
At the beginning of the play whenever Betty was sick he was more worried about what people are saying, not about Betty. He was worried about the golden candle sticks from the church and in the play John Proctor accused him many times about firewood but parris never denied it, but rather gave dull answers. Another person who is more worried about reputation is Judge Danforth, he traded in many lives just to be a reputable judge in Boston. He is set in the belief that the court is always right. “A person is either with the court or must be counted against it”. He got caught up rooting out witchcraft that he didn’t recognize the hysterical accusations being made against people. By accusing 72 victims he hoped to promote his reputations as a judge and increase his chances of becoming a respected judge in Salem. His biggest test was John Proctor, a man with a good name and clean slate. My essay was over The Crucible and three main people who worried about their reputation more than anything.
