Richard Allen was an important man that in established the Mother Bethel AME Church. He also contributed to the anti-slavery movement. Allen was an influence on the people of his time. At the age of seventeen, Allen joined the Methodist Society. Later on, Allen purchased his freedom by doing extra jobs. He then became a Methodist preacher and preached in the northeast. Allen became friends with Absalom Jones, together these two would make a statement in history. Allen wanted to have an independent church for African Americans; that was denied.
