He had control of 90% of the United States oil. Rockefeller also had a big impact on the railroad industry. In 1879 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania charged Rockefeller of monopoly of the oil trade.

Rockefeller was the second of six children born in Richford New York on November 13 1810. His family moved many times before staying in Cleveland Ohio. In Ohio he became a assistant bookkeeper at the age of 16. At the age of 20 he started a business partnership with Maurice Clark and his brother. After buying them out his brother and him founded Rockefeller & Andrews.
