Ronald Reagan nicknamed the 'Great Communicator' was a man who embodied the American Dream. He was a man who was what he said he was. What you got was what you saw and what you saw was great and American. People either loved him or hated him but you still can't deny the great legacy he left behind. As the 40th president of the United States he was a leader who helped revitalize the American economy, helped expand the boundaries of freedom at home and abroad, and helped rebuild the institution of the presidency and restored Americans' faith in the future. He was a conservative icon and came to symbolize his generation.

In 1920, the Reagans settled in Dixon. While Reagan was a child his father was a gregarious man with a grade school eduction. He made his way as a shoe sales man and was an alcoholic. His mother on the other hand, was nurturing and encouraged her sons. She was a good doer often visiting prisoners and hospital patients when she had free time away from church. Despite his sometimes stressful home life, Reagan was very involved in school and his teen years were nothing short of jampacked. Reagan graduated from Dixon High School in 1928, where he played on the football and basketball teams, became president of the student body, acted in school plays, and wrote for the yearbook. He was also an accomplished swimmer since early childhood, and even worked six summers as a lifeguard in Lowell Park in Dixon on Rock River where he saved 77 people according to newspaper reports. After high school he enrolled in Eureka College in 1928 majoring in economics. Even after high school, he continued being involved in athletics playing football and being a member of
