Sir Henry Parkes was elected to NSW legislative council in 1854 and was in that position for one year and ten months. Sir Henry was An Elective Member of the very first Legislative Council from 1843 to 1856 for the City of Sydney. Then Henry advanced to the Legislative Assembly in 1856. As part of sir Henry's role he held a meeting of premiers in 1890 resulted in a constitutional convention under his presidency which in 1891 drafted a Constitution Bill; but although his forceful oratory and commanding personality won many adherents to the federal cause, Parkes failed to carry the measure in his…show more content… His speech had an enormous effect on the movement toward Federation. And because of poor management, the Empire failed, and in 1858 Parkes suffered insolvency, leading to his temporary political eclipse.
He supported the federation of the colonies into an Australian democratic nation were from opposite sides of politics. Henry Parkes was a Labor politician. Sir Henry Parkes died on 27 April 1896, four years before Australia became a Federation, having established the political directions for the new country.
