Music has a very large impact on slaves, they could dance their problems and stress away. What was the Charleston? The Charleston was an African dance that had the most influence on American dance culture. It was a form of the jitterbug, a term used to describe unconventional, often formless and violent, social dance. It is performed to syncopated music. The Charleston slowly evolved by enslaved Africans who had brought it from the kongo to Charleston. The Charleston is used for fun and letting go of things.
