The declaration of independance and the bill of rights are two documents that give americans the right to live freely and independently. During the colonial period, the British government and military caused problems in the colonies by raising taxes with their representation and garrisoning soldiers within some colonial cities. Because of these and many other problems the colonists declared their independence from Great Britain. The declaration of independence helped influence the bill of rights by protecting the rights of all americans and limiting power to the government.

The British government abused the colonists by violating their rights and taxing them without having them represented in parliament. The British, during the 1760s began to station troops in cities across the colonies and let the soldiers go into any house they and force the resident the feed and shelter them. A example of americans rights is the right to liberty which can not be taken away by the government, except if laws are broken. This is protected by the constitution and the bill of rights. The constitution and bill of rights gives all americans the right to life, liberty, and happiness which is also supported in the declaration of independance. Our rights as americans have been made a example to world as to what true freedom looks like, many countries have made similar constitutions and rights to protect their citizens like we
