For Canada as a nation, the First World War was a defining moment. The source speaks upon this point and also how Canadians participating in the war created a strong sense of nationhood within the citizens. This strong sense of nationhood did not come about by any easy means, but came about through many casualties and controversies that the Canadian armed forces had to face.
