How Did The Industrial Revolution Affect America

In the late 1700s, Great Britain started undergoing the first parts of the Industrial Revolution. Seeing how successful Britain’s economy was, the United States wanted to do the same as well. This was not possible for America until 1820 because the US government could not fund it and Americans did not have the plans to create manufacturing machines. Later, Samuel Slater, the Father of the Factory System, memorized the blueprints of British textile machines and created the first American cotton thread spinner. With the British plans, America flourished in the manufacturing business and the Industrial Revolution finally occurred. America became a very rich and bountiful land which attracted many new immigrants from Ireland and Germany. Because of the sudden influx of immigrants, many Americans came to despise the immigrants because the immigrants stole many job opportunities from the Americans. The …show more content…
The Know-Nothings also feared that with immigrants came an increase of Catholicism which threatened the growing Protestant religion. Because of the Industrial Revolution, America underwent many reforms and drastic changes such as the Second Great Awakening and many new ideals and beliefs. Ultimately, these sorts of societal reactions develop into a major turning point for three specific ideologies: religion, women, and slavery. During the Industrial Revolution, there was a religion revival, thus many new religions formed in various areas such as New York and Utah. More and more people attended church and started to have faith again. Many relied on Deism because they preferred to believe in reason rather than revelation. Deism was a more rational religion than Christianity, therefore more people found Deism appealing.
