How did the Industrial Revolution transform America? The answer to this question will vary from person to person but, the truth is that it transformed America in many different ways to include the transportation of materials and goods, Changing role of women, Blacks and women in politics, and the education of middle and working class people in America during the late 1800’s even to the current time now.

According to the Industrial Revolution Research, The growth of the Industrial Revolution greatly depended on the transportation of materials and goods over long distances. There were three main types of transportation that increased during the Industrial Revolution: waterways, roads, and railroads. Transportation was important because people were starting to live in the West. During this time period, transportation using water was the cheapest way to move heavy products. (http://industrialrevolutionresearch.com/industrial_revolution_transportation.php, 2004) This resulted in canals being widened and deepened to allow more boats to pass. Robert Fulton made the first steam-powered engine to power a steamboat, and in 1807 he demonstrated its use by going from New York City to Albany using the Hudson River. His steamboat was able to carry raw materials across the Atlantic Ocean by the mid 1800's.
