When the the Panama Canal opened its doors on August 15, 1914, it altered United States foreign and domestic relations. For America, it was a technological and economic breakthrough. Trade and transportation from America’s east coast to it’s west coast had previously required a longer route around all South America. America would now be able to transport products across the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean with facilitation, unlike before. Moreover, the completion of the canal demonstrated America's technological capabilities since they had manipulated mother nature to their advantage.
