The alliance system in Europe contributed to world war 1 because any sort of conflict between countries could originate a war. There was two alliance system in Europe, the triple alliance, and the triple entente. The triple alliance contained the countries Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy while the triple entente contained the countries Great Britain, France and Russia. During 1908, Austria-Hungary annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina, the areas with large Slavic populations, which leaded to the Serbian’s leaders to be pissed (History book, 409). This annexation caused high tension between Austria-Hungary and Serbia.
