The Vietnam war was one of the the most controversial wars of all time. The war’s affect was felt all over the world as it caused controversy and protests by many nations. France had occupied Vietnam for 70 years until in 1965 when the Japanese invaded North Vietnam (Department of Veterans Affairs Background, 2015, paragraph 1). The reason why this was seen as a war on communism is because the North Vietnamese were supported by the Chinese and Russians.
