The Vietnam War changed America forever. It was the longest war fought in America’s history, lasting from 1955 to 1973.The war also had great effects on the American people, but even more on the men who fought in the war. It was the first war ever broadcast on television. The public was able to see what happened on the battlefield. Whether or not they felt proud of their service, returning Vietnam veterans received a lukewarm welcome for their service.The public vented its frustration with racism, the federal government, and the war on the returning veterans. While most Americans viewed World War II as the "good war," a majority of the American public viewed the Vietnam conflict as a waste of time, and money. One of the chief effects of the war was the division it caused among the people. You were either for the war, or didn't want anything to do with it. This war would have lasting affects on the soldiers who returned home. The US treated the men who fought for our country poorly. They lied to the men and/or lifted out information one should know about. The soldiers were left without jobs when they returned home, and most felt a bit of shame, because of the way they were treated when they got home, and having PTSD caused a lot of …show more content…
