The day was November 29, 1847. A day that started out as a normal autumn morning, but ended with a bloody massacre that would go down in history books for hundreds of years to come. Nobody wants to become sick, but would an illness, such as the measles, drive you to kill 14 people? On that infamous day, 5 Cayuse indians made a fatal decision that resulted in the Whitman Massacre, and a cruel and awful war that would drag on for 8 years, known as the Cayuse War.
The Cayuse War was mainly caused by the killings of Marcus and Narcissa Whitman. The Whitmans were settlers that founded the Whitman Mission in current day Walla Walla, Washington. Their purpose was to convert the Cayuse Native Americans to Christianity and to teach the Cayuse tribe
