Thomas Paine's thesis is that the Iroquois Indians had no influence on how the United States Constitution was formed. This is unlike other historians, such as Bruce E. Johansen, who stated that the Iroquois were the "forgotten Founders" and that they were the true sculptors of the way the American Constitution was created. These opposers believed that the indians were not credited for their influences of bringing the thirteen colonies together along with the federal system of government.
Paine brings up that the Articles of Confederation and the Iroquois League differed greatly. The Iroquois League consisted of a nonstate society, but British Americans followed the Articles of Confederation which stated that it would have foreign policies
