The Cold War Imagine sitting in class and hearing sirens go off, so you get under your desk and wait till you’re allowed to get up. This was the thing almost every student in America was doing during the Cold War, trying to prepare themselves for a nuclear bomb being dropped. The Cold War was a conflict from 1945 to 1990 between the U.S and the Soviet Union, where the U.S tried to stop the spread of communism. Containment is the U.S policy to stop the spread of communism by providing economic and military aid to countries opposing the Soviets. Harry S. Truman was an American Statesman, Dwight D. Eisenhower was an American Army General and Statesman, and John F. Kennedy served as the 35th president of the United States. Greece is not a rich country, and is afraid of communism spreading (Truman 1). Greece asked the United States for help because they didn't have enough money to begin with, so they use economic aid to help. Truman said, “Greece is today without funds to finance the importance of those goods which are essential to bare subsistence. Greece is in desperate need of financial and economic assistance to enable it to resume purchases of food, clothing, fuel and seeds.
