William Pitney was born in Broad Brook CT. He grew up with his parents Louis Pitney and Gertrude Stein Pitney and his four brothers Louis, Kenneth, Thomas, James Pitney. He attended school in Ellsworth Memorial High School in South Windsor and continued his education at Boston University then Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts for an accounting degree. When he enlisted the military he became part of the Army branch as a supply sergeant. He was in the army for 18 months and served from September 1946 to February 1948. William joined the army because he was about to be drafted into the military and instead of being drafted and not knowing how long he would serve he decided to take an offer the military made to choose your own branch …show more content…
He normally went back and forth from the capital and from where he was stationed. When he made his trips to the capital he witnessed hundreds of people lining up at one place for food. There were very few schools because buildings and cities were destroyed by bombing runs. Throughout his experience in the military whether he was stationed in the Philippines or during training for the military he took important lessons and benefits from it all. During William's experience he was able to travel, gain education, learn discipline and skills, and gained promotion, social growth and most importantly pride of being an American soldier in the Army. Outside of his experience in the Army he had minor jobs before colledge like working at a pharmacy and working on a farm driving a tractor. After he finished college he got a job as a Chief Financial Officer in a business. Outside of working as a businessman in the daytime he was able to combine his interest in music and become leader of a German oompah band as a weekend job. William has interests and hobbies of playing or listening to music and
