World War I was detrimental to the continent of Europe. The approximate people who died were 17 million and 20 million wounded, making this one of the most deadliest conflicts in world history. A lot of this was started through nationalism, which means patriotic feeling, principles, or even going in extreme causes due to a feeling of being superior over other countries. A common question asked about this war is, who started it? Thanks to the help of nationalism, everyone was at fault. Not only did they all take part in the war, but they also were extremely stubborn and blamed others for their own doings. During the beginning of the war, it started out as just a feud between Austria-Hungary and Serbia, due to Serbia assassinating Austriaś prince, Franz Ferdinand. Although these documents were a big part of understanding who started the war, there were a few voices missing. One of them being the military or government people. Yes, they did in the end say what to do, but over all if their people wanted a war, they could not simply tell them no. They have an obligation to make their people happy. It would have been a bit more refreshing and easier to understand if we had more documents giving an insight into those people’s thoughts, maybe something similar to Willy and Nicky’s letters. This war did cause a huge impact on the countries at hand, but it contributed out globally as well.
