During the first World War, the United States had been greatly affected impacted by what it caused in the states with citizens. It changed in the work force with woman and immigration, government and how it was run, as well as changed how people viewed many things. During WWI, men had been drafted into the war, whether they worked or not. Meaning that a lot of people had been forced out of their jobs in order to fight for the country. This left many business places with open spots and being understaffed. Due to being understaffed, for the first time, women were allowed to have jobs that used to be held specifically for men, though of course it was only jobs like being a chef or a teacher, nothing that would be considered masculine like construction or mining. While this was going on, immigration didn’t stop, aside from those who were coming from the European countries they were at war with (you don’t want any spies or anyone bad sneaking in while you’re at war, right?). They started with creating propaganda. There were people advertising and trying to convince the citizens that the war was good. That it was necessary. So, when people had outwardly spoken against the war, of course the government wasn’t happy with that. Why would anyone want to speak out against their country and it’s acts? Against the military that was protecting them? Against the government of all things?. So, in return. It became illegal to do exactly that. But why was that fair? To get charged and fined for your freedom of speech and saying your beliefs, wasn’t that the reason America was created in the first place? To get away from the tyranny of the government and king of Britain, so they wouldn’t deal with the unfair taxing and all of that. Yet they are treating the citizens of the United States just as they were in Britain that caused them to flee and create their own ‘free’
