In the novel, To Kill A MockingBird by Harper Lee a lawyer named Atticus defends Tom Robinson a black man who is accused of raping Mayella Ewell. Although Atticus does not win the courtcase he still stands up for what was right.Tom Robinson is put into jail and later is shot trying to escape prison. Therefore, Atticus, Boo, and Tom share innocence and kindness similar that of the mockingbird, but are all metaphorically murdered by the townspeople,
Atticus Finch is similar to a mockingbird because he is an excellent role model. For example, Atticus claims that “all men are created equal-there is one institution that makes a proper claim...and in [their] courts all men are created equal” (100). This shows that Atticus speaks and stands up for what he believes is right. This also reveals that Atticus is a good man because he doesn't think that one race is superior than the other . For example when Tom Robinson lost the court case he “[feels] right sorry for her. This shows that Tom Robinson is a noble caring person because he feels concern about Mayella even though she is white. This also reveals that he did not get physical with her instead he avoids doing any harm towards Mayella. Furthermore, after Tom Robinson is shot Mr. Underwood compares his death to “the senseless slaughter of songbirds” (300). This proves that Tom is an innocent man because he dies doing nothing wrong. This also reveals that Tom Robinson is a gentle and kind man is shot by people who think they are better than one race. Honest, caring, and a role model is what a mockingbird
