How Not to Gain Freedom over Your Parents : Curley’s Wife Marriage is a great mutual agreement of two people. It is expected by both of them to share their love. However sometimes things don’t go the way they should. In the story OMaM, Curley and his wife are a great example of marriage failures. Curley always acts as the owner of his wife and tells her what to do and where to be. Curley gets angry whenever he sees her wandering around the guys in the ranch. Curley’s wife, however , doesn’t like that, as she gets treated like a property. Even though Curley’s wife married Curley to gain her independence from her family, she still depends on somebody to live. Throughout the events of the story, Curley always harasses her and always tells her to go home. Curley’s wife is always around the guys with an excuse, in which she states that she is looking for Curley. However, she is only around boys for attention. She seeks adventure, which she really can’t get from Curley. Whenever Curley knows she’s not at home, he goes looking for her and asks the guys if she had been in the bunkhouse or if they had seen her around.
