In T.J Eckleburg’s story The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby is shown to be reminiscent of his past with Daisy. The author shows James Gatz's past and future to revolve around his one and only love Daisy. By showing this act of vulnerability, it reveals how his facade of being a rich and successful man presently is all to impress a woman who he couldn’t have in the past. In the story he constantly urges and attempts to see and impress this woman whom has maybe let go of her past feelings. He however still loves her and tries his utmost hardest to make his failed past a successful present. Later he attempts to prove to Tom Buchanan that Daisy has distorted her feelings for Tom and truly loved and still loves Jay. Nevertheless Gatsby is shocked to see that Tom and Daisy actually have a daughter, which symbolizes their love for each other. Knowing how Gatsby stays thinking about the past, shows how his current lifestyle isn’t for himself. He has obtained or worked for this position to secure a certain orientation that was unsteady before. This shows how he is just an uneasy insecure man who is trying to find a sense of security in life. His unfair death just shows how even if he attempted to fix his poor broken past he won’t truly be able to. In my opinion I don’t think one should live dwelling on their past. When you bethink on the past it will hold you back from truly going forward in life. Furthermore the past has already occurred, and no matter what you do you are unable to change whatever that has
