In the short story “A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury, Eckels wants to go back in time to shoot the dream of his life, a t-rex. Travis makes Eckles dream a reality when he shows him the time machine. Bradbury uses symbolism to build suspense throughout the story by using a time machine, a t-rex, and the path as symbols.
On page 2, Bradbury uses a time machine as his main focus to the reader when he writes, “‘Unbelievable.’ Eckles breathed, the light of the Machine on his thin face. ‘A real time machine.’” Bradbury capitalized the M in machine to strike to the reader that Eckles is nervous and excited, to go on this new trip back in time.
