How Does Elie's Faith Change Throughout The Novel

At the beginning of Night, Elie describes himself as a person who believes strongly about his faith.Throughout the book, His faith changes a lot; the changes are from events that people have caused.With all the camps and the pain this cause for a change within his life. In the beginning, Elie was still at home in Sighet with his family and he was practicing his religion. One day Moishe the beadle asked Elie why he prayed “ Why do I pray? Strange question. Why did I live? Why did I breathe?” (page 4). Elie described how his faith was like him living. That’s how strongly he believes in this faith. He could never see himself not believing in his god. This was before the camps, before the pit of fire, and before he left his mother and sisters. When he came to the camps he had doubts about his god for letting all of this happen. On Yom Kippur people were fasting but Elie had other plans “I no longer accepted God’s silence. As I swallowed my ration of soup, I turned that act into of rebellion, of protest against Him.” (page 69). He was not going to fast that night because like before in the book he said that food was his life now. This is because he wants to live and be able to keep going and see the people who did this to him, his family, and all the people that died or suffered to pay. Like he said in the quote he no longer accepted God’s silence. So his faith has been destroyed by all of the actions and pain he has witnessed.
Through these chapters a lot has happened to Elie. Elie’s faith changed a lot; just in the beginning is faith was dwindling fast. Then by the middle of the book his faith was absent; he was rebelling against God. From a kid who was living and breathing his faith and then rebel against it that is a significant
