How Does Golding Use Fear In Lord Of The Flies

In the novel Lord of the Flies, the author, William Golding, displays the theme Fear of the unknown through fear of the beast ,how Jack uses fear, and fear of not being rescued.

William Golding shows the theme fear of the unknown through the “beast”.
“Maybe...there is a beast, I don't know, what I mean, maybe it's only us.”(84) Piggy is unsure if there really is a beast or it's just their imaginations running wild. "…fear can't hurt you any more than a dream. There aren't any beasts to be afraid of on this island . . . Serve you right if something did get you, you useless lot of cry-babies!" (79)
The boys are afraid of something they don't even know exists. They fear the beast which was only alive in their imaginations. They created the beast. And they became the thing they were most afraid of when they killed Simon, they became the beast.

Golding also shows how leaders use fear to manipulate people. "I expect the beast disguised himself." "Perhaps ... We'd better keep on the right side of him, anyhow. You can't tell what he might do.
