In life, you will face many challenges, go through many hardships, and do many things you do not want to do. There is a certain trait that all people possess, but not all show to get through those challenges and hardships. That trait is courage. Everyone one has great amounts of courage inside of them, but not all show it. In the book, “Red Badge of Courage.” There are many acts of courage throughout the course of the story. A young man named Henry Fleming is joining the military. He initially likes all the glory that the soldiers get, but when he arrives and gets closer to battle, his feelings change. He is scared that he is going to flee right away from battle and let fear get the best of him. Everyone is going to be afraid of battle, but they must find their courageous side to help them power through. The military is an occupation that requires courage and resilience. His self confidence that he built up led to others being confident and courageous because they knew they could trust Henry. His uplifting spirit was the key to their regiment being successful. If he did not put in the effort and push himself to do things he was uncomfortable with, no one would of really thought about how they need to be more courageous. This shows that one person can bring out the courage in many others. In times of hardship, when one person steps up, it will cause a chain-reaction and cause many others to step up as well. They will realize that you are a leader and looked up to, and they will aspire to be like you. “The impetus of enthusiasm was theirs again. They gazed about them with looks of uplifted pride, feeling new trust in the grim, always confident weapons in their hands.
