Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 film Psycho uses film and stylistic features to present the duality of human nature and the struggle between right and wrong. This is explored by following the journey of Norman Bates and his dualities, and Marion Crane and her dualities, we are able to see the struggle between right and wrong. By trailing Norman through his dualities,
Hitchcock explores the duality of human nature through the opening credits and scene. The music in the opening credits is one of the first things that the audience are able to identify, being very intense, making us feel uncomfortable and being full of suspense. Also, the way in which the actors names come in, the actors with dualities names are brought together from different sides, their names split and the contrast in colours and graphics. This is done to show the two conflicting sides of these characters and explore their own dualities. The Psycho title is also glitches in and out hinting at that the two characters don’t fit together. Hitchcock also explore the duality of human nature and the struggle between right and wring through the opening scene of Psycho. Through the use of a close up and high open shot of the window which Is zoomed in, we are introduced to Sam and Marion’s relationship. As we aren’t going through the door of the apartment we are unseen and almost spying through the window, getting a glimpse of their private life, where we see Sam is cheating
