Social inequality shown throughout To kill a mockingbird

Social inequality has been around since the beginning of time, the rich having more advantages than the poor, the whit race having more opportunities and freedom than others, no matter what the case social inequality always has and always will be relevant in our society. In Harper Lee’s To kill a mockingbird, many of the characters such as Tom Robinson are unfairly treated because of the colour of there skin, there lifestyle, or even just because of they’re gender. This benefits no one, and effects everyone. In to kill a mockingbird, we see that Tom Robinson is trialed unfairly because of his race, Aunt Alexandra doesn’t approve of Scout being around Walter Cunningham because he is poor and filthy, and Jem tells Scout to stop acting like a girl and more like a guy and that no one likes hanging around girls.

Jem constantly tells scout to stop acting like a girl and that no guy likes to play with girls. The following quote will help solidify my previous statement, "I was not so sure, but Jem told me I was being a girl, that girls always imagined things, that’s why other people hated them so, and if i started behaving like one I could just go off and find some to play with." This quote demonstrates perfectly just how Jem displays being a girl as being bad. He thinks girls imagine things and that people hate them, he doesn’t want to hang around with a girl because they act a certain way.
