About 1.3 billion people are living in extreme poverty in the year of 2017. Poverty is a world spread thing that many people are going through. Realizing what these people are going through can cause people to change in the way they act. In Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol, Scrooge goes through a immense change by the end of the story. Scrooge changes because the spirits show him how his actions affect other people. The first spirit, The Ghost of Christmas Past, motivates Scrooge to change by showing him at the boarding school with his younger sister Fan. In Stave III, The Ghost of Christmas Past shows him the amazing way fan treated him. Scrooge and the Spirit where talking about Fan and her son, Fred. In which the book states, “Scrooge seemed uneasy in his mind and answered briefly,’yes’”(Dickens 37). Scrooge seems uneasy because he realizes the only living thing that is left of Fan, Fred, he has been treating terrible. He learns he needs to take care and be friendlier to Fred. …show more content…
In Stave III, The Ghost of Christmas Present, shows Scrooge the Cratchit Family. Scrooge asks if Tiny Tim would die. The Spirit responds with,”I see a vacant seat, in the poor chimney-corner,and a crutch without an owner,carefully preserved. If these shadows remain unaltered by the Future, the child will die” (Dickens 62). After the spirit says this Scrooge realizes he has to be the person that changes his actions. He takes a step into reality and realizes that he has to start paying Bob Cratchit (his employee) more, so they can afford help for the young Tiny
