How Does Seaworld Treat Marine Animals

SeaWorld is a chain of theme parks where people can go and look at different kinds of marine animals and performances done with the animals for entertainment. Over the years it has grown to become a profitable business and attracts many people yearly. However, this has also attracted the attention of people who are concerned about the wellbeing of these marine animals and are upset over this. Although most would want to believe that this is just speculation and isn’t actually true, SeaWorld actually doesn’t know how to treat their animals properly and are hurting them to keep SeaWorld’s good image in the eyes of the public.

One thing that all animals need whether human or not is exercise. This keeps your muscles use to the stress put on everyday actions such as swimming for swimming. In fact orcas swim on average 100 miles a day in wildlife environments. However, in SeaWorld there isn’t a huge ocean for them to swim in, and instead are put into a small tank which is significantly smaller in comparison. SeaWorld employee Fred Jacobs reacted to this claim by saying that “swimming (100 miles) is not integral to a whale’s health and well-being. It is likely foraging behavior.” SeaWorld has also installed a treadmill into the orca tanks, but nothing could beat the openness and freedom of the ocean where they belong.

They have shown a deep relationship with family members and often swim in packs with each other. These relationships are quickly torn apart however by SeaWorld capturing them, placing them in tanks and forcing them to socialize with strangers. This is traumatizing to orcas and shows that SeaWorld mistreats the orcas they’ve captured and don’t understand how an orcas natural habitat
