Social workers who understand how theorists conceptualize aging will recognize developmental processes that affect several older adults (Richardson & Barusch, 2006, p. 46). Theories, perspectives, and practice models related to well-being, health, and health outcomes can help social workers understand and differentiate normal and abnormal. The theories and perspectives explain why something happens, and practice models present ways to use a theory or perspective to create change.
