How Does Society Change In Fahrenheit 451

Throughout this whole book so far, society has made Mildred self-centered, robotic, and unfeeling. The farther the book goes, the more cold-hearted Mildred becomes. The more Mildred is cold-hearted and selfish; which society has made her simple minded, the more montag becomes caring and more kind. It’s like their roles are being switched.
First, one reason society can change a person positively or negatively. So society has made Mildred so self-centered because, Montag is so emotionally hurt after finding out that Clarisse is dead, and he just burned a woman alive. Mildred, in Fahrenheit 451, says, “You want to give up everything? After all these years of working, because, one night, Some woman and her books-” Society has made Mildred self-centered, robotic, and unfeeling. She is so self-centered that she doesn’t realize that Montag has changed and he is very hurt and emotionally damaged.

“If you don’t want a man unhappy politically, then don’t give him two sides to a question to worry him; give him one. Better yet, give him none. Let him forget there is such a thing as war.” He means not to worry about anything, only yourself. In the book, she states “she nothing to me; she should’ve thought of that. I hate her. She’s got you going and next thing you know we’ll be out, no house, no job, nothing.” Not only is she robotic but she is selfish. Mildred says that she hates the lady who was burned alive. Mildred didn’t know that books was that lady’s life, she didn’t know that the lady loved books and would give up her life than to live in a world that didn’t allow books. Maybe books was the only thing in that lady’s life, but Mildred acted like a robot and started saying that she hated her’ even though she didn’t know her or that bond that lady had with her book. So Beaty was trying to tell Montag that society can change anyone at anytime, and society has changed
