How Does Steinbeck Present Crooks Discrimination

Today many people think that the cops are discriminating the colored and not giving them the rights that they deserve. In the book Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck uses the characters Lennie,Curley's wife, and Crooks to show discrimination because of their gender,race and mental ability. Lennie one of the main characters was discriminated throughout the whole book because of his mental ability. We learn about Lennie's mental disability when we find out that he keeps dead mice and when George speaks to him slower and says that he always forgets things it gives us a huge hint about his disability. Crooks is a black man and to make matters worse he is crippled so that makes him even lower on the chain at the ranch. Discrimination for crooks has happened his whole life. He points out that there was only one black family that owned a ranch and also shows us how his dad did not want his kids to hang out with them. And when he got old enough he figured out that they didn't accept blacks because there was only on black family in his area. ¨´there wasn't a colored family for miles around´¨(70). After when Crooks finally started to understand everything in the world he kinda cut off everyone because he knows that everyone doesn't accept him because of his race. This effect his social skill because all he does when someone tries to talk to him he makes fun of them or gets in there head because that's how he has been treated in the past. This affected his life because he didn't grow up with someone actually caring about him. Also do or get anything that everyone else was able to because of his skin like to follow his dreams,friends, and the respect that he deserved.
