In the story "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck foreshadowing is a very important element of the story. In "Of Mice and Men", John Steinbeck uses foreshadowing to illustrate several hints of upcoming events. He foreshadows in the title, George and Lennie`s dream, and Lennie`s conflicts.
One way Steinbeck uses foreshadowing is in the title. The title of the book is taken directly out of the poem "To a Mouse" written by Robert Burns. "The best laid schemes of mice and men go often askew, and leaves us with nothing but grief and pain" (Document A). In the story, it seemed George and Lennie had laid this plan out as well as they could, until Lennie kills Curley`s Wife. In the poem, the mouse represents Lennie. Both of them are easily scared,
