How Does The Kite Runner Change Amir's Character

The average person in everyday life is faced with many challenges that may change you. These challenges will change your character and the outcome of your life. There are any ways to change your character such as the way you view things or learn things from other people that are important in your life. In the novel, The Kite Runner, Amir is one of the many main characters and experiences a lot when going from child to adulthood. Amir’s character has been shaped by two big factors in his life growing up and then his wife later on in life.
At a young age, Amir and his character are faced with many challenges. Amir grew up with Hassan, Amir’s best friend and servant, basically from the womb. As the boys grow up together you can see who Hassan is as a person, amazing friend, loyal, forgiving, and just all around good – natured. Hassan is brought up learning that it is his duty to sacrifice himself for others. Hassan would always stand up for Amir when he got into difficult situations. For example: (ch.5) Assef and two other boys, who are in the wealthy class, make fun of Amir for being friends with Hassan because he is a servant. The boys asked Hassan for is kite but he wouldn’t give it to them, showing loyalty to Amir, and the boys then held him down and Assef raped him. Unbenownced to Hassan, Amir was at the entrance of the alley watching this all happen and he didn’t say one word or try to help him, showing cowardness and awful friendship traits. So, obviously at this point Amir has learned nothing about how to act or treat others, everything his character should be developing at this point in his life, he is 12.
