There are different types of factors that can affect children and their development; there are external factors and personal factors. The factors that affect children can occur at various stages throughout their lives and can affect their development both in a positive and negative way. In terms of personal factors these are what influence the child and their development personally; they include things such as the child’s health, learning difficulties, disability and sensory impairment.

Children and young people’s health can directly affect their development as if the child suffers from poor health their developmental opportunities may be affected as they may not be able to partake in social activities with other pupils on the playground
