In Ancient Greece a philosopher named Aristotle came up with Ethos, Pathos, and logos. These are the ways in which we try to persuade a given audience, for a given purpose. Dr. Martin Luther King shows this off in one the most powerful speech of all time. He created a personal connection with his audience, and has said some of the most iconic words ever uttered by any human being, in history. He explains how his dream of racial equality, must become a reality. His words are understood by everybody, young and old as he lead the black movement. He speaks on the racism that he and his children go through by saying. "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character” (King #). Dr. King usage of pathos, shows not only parents, but children as well, as they are victims of racism in the worst ways. And how it resonates with people, to stand up to oppression, and discrimination, and to finally make a movement that will help the human race as a whole. This momentous decree is a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice." Through this quote, the audience of the speech can conclude that Martin Luther King, Jr. is well-educated on the subject of African-American history and has a passionate, well-founded opinion on the topic based on facts and historical
