Many people wish to live successful lives because it reflects their accomplishments. However, in order for an individual to be successful, he or she has to work exceedingly hard to achieve it. This is the concept of American Dream, which refers to our country’s notion that through hard work and perseverance, one is able to accomplish his or her goals and achieve ultimate happiness. In the novel “The Great Gatsby” by F.Scott Fitzgerald, the main character, Jay Gatsby, strives to achieve his own version of the American Dream. He originated from a poor family in midwest. He had always wished to live a successful life. To fulfill his dreams, he moves to West in greed for money. There he meets Daisy Buchanan, a girl whom he had spent time with before going to war. Gatsby decides to bring Daisy back in his life from his wealth. Unfortunately, Gatsby fails to achieve his version of American Dream because he fails to regain his love back, his countless efforts become futile, and he is killed in the end. Although Gatsby was from a poor background, he had always hoped of living a rich and a successful life.
