Islam entered the United states of America around the 1800’s and since them it has been one of the largest religions in the country. According to recently publish article, Muslims are about one percent on the United Stated population which puts them to around 3.3 million Muslims (Lipka, “Muslims and Islam”). Unequivocally, the 3.3 million individuals have a different perspective of America. Based on the readings that’s in the book, America had a different meaning to each Muslim that shared his or her story in the book. Notable number of Muslims strived to make America their homes and embraced the America. In this paper, I argue that certainly Muslims interpreted “America” differently from each other. Muhammad kind of branched out of Islam and had his own domination of Islam called the Nation of Islam. The Nation of Islam published Muhammad’s theories, doctrines of the apocalypse, and the interpretations of the Bible and the Qur’an and his basic teachings (Curtis 93). After being exposed to what do the Muslims want according to the Nation of Islam, they based their wants on their beliefs not on the laws of the United States. For example, they wanted freedom for all believers of Islam that are held in federal prison (Curtis 93). Elijah Muhammad and the National of Islam might believe in the same thing that every other Muslims do. First IMANA stands for the Islamic Medical Association of North America. IMANA promotes Islamic medical ethics and values that is very different than the American medical ethics and values. For example, IMANA “do not believe in prolong the misery of dying patients who are terminally ill” (Curtis 388). While the American medical ethics would help terminally ill patient by giving him or her euthanasia, Islam medical ethics do not support this idea. Another example would be organ donations. American Medical ethics allow any form of organ donations if is helping people, however there are guidelines for the organ donations when it comes to IMANA. Moreover, The Lariba financing system that is Islamic mortgage company that follows the Islamic rules when it comes to loans. For this organization and system to come out it had to come out from people who did not fully adapt to the United States. America meant to some people as just a place they can live in and they brought their traditions with them instead adapting to the American tradition. Those five examples show that for some Muslims America was a pathway on their journey and they changed it and added their touch in it but they left back to their home country or even started with their own rules and
