In How Smart Are Animals? The author, Dorothy Patent, describes her article as informative but also entertaining. On line 60 in the section Do Animals Think, it states, “During the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, people readily attributed human emotions and mental abilities to animals.” This statement is informative because Patent is explaining the process of this study. Patent is also expressing that scientist haven’t made their studies valid yet. This story is entertaining as well because in the story, Dorothy Patent states, “A bright monkey may score as well on a test as an ape, while a dull one may be outclassed by a rat.” This statement is entertaining because it is telling us that the intelligence of a monkey may not be intelligent
