During the 1960’s to 1877 is considered the Reconstruction Era, in which the movement was the rebuilding of the United States after the Civil War. During this time the south was dealing with economic depression. Abraham Lincoln was a key factor during this time as he urged the country to end slavery and reunite under one government. One of the first acts was the “Ten percent plan” which was a proposal to reinstate the southern states. These southern states would only be reinstated if 10% of the state votes had taken oath of allegiance to the United States and pledged to abide to the Emancipation.
