How The Great Depression Affected America

America was in despair. 13 million people had lost their jobs, the stock market’s had lost 25 billion dollars, and 60 percent of American’s were living in complete poverty. The Great Depression had officially begun. Of course, it wasn’t just Americans that were affected by this traumatic situation, but American’s were definitely affected the most by it. It’s inarguable. During this time period Americans were so hopeless that to survive many of them ate roadkill. The luckier of them drank depression soup (ketchup and water). During this time even the rich suffered. Many of the rich owned businesses. When the managers of the businesses couldn’t hire employees, they went bankrupt. Leaving them in an equally helpless situation as the poor. It was definitely one of the worst times in America. Although the Great depression was created due to a variety of economic factors, the main cause of it is the Wall Street Crash.

25 percent of Americans were unemployed, and those who were could barely made a decent living. The Wall Street Crash completely wiped out many financial investors. Without investment businesses and factories went bankrupt, meaning they had no money. This left many businesses and factories unable to hire workers. If it weren't for the Wall Street Crash, then Americans would probably still be living the life of the booming 20’s. Which in a sense, would be completely horrifying. Banks probably would’ve still had no federal regulations to follow, businesses would have still been over producing goods, and American’s probably would've still been maniacally selling shares and stocks. But today, we aren't, we’ve learned from our mistakes and are careful not to repeat them. The Wall Street Crash completely changed the world we live in today. Even though it sparked the Great Depression, in the end, American’s are the ones that need to be thanking
