It was getting closer and closer to Christmas and my sister and I wanted to get into the holiday spirit. Since there is no better way to get ready for the holidays than by watching a Christmas movie we put in Dr.Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas into the DVD player and started to watch the movie. We had gotten to the part in the movie where the Grinch takes a large bite of an onion and rubs it underneath his armpits. I could smell the pungent, sulfuric, stench of the onion leave the television screen, and make its way to my nostrils. That’s when everything changed. All of a sudden all the lights in the house turned off, leaving me and my sister alone in the darkness, screeching at the top of our lungs, and the picture of the Grinch feverishly chewing the onion forever ingrained in my brain. …show more content…
For an example fear can make you be more careful when you are walking down a dim lit pathway at night, but fear is also something that you can start to feel trapped inside of if it keeps you away from achieving your goals. I do have a fear of onions, but on a more serious note public speaking is a fear that I struggled with for a long time. In school, whenever the teacher would say that we would be giving presentations to the class, or any activity where I would have to get up in front of the class and speak, I would be utterly terrified. I would always go to the teacher after class and the discussion would always go like this,
“Hello Mrs. Smith, I was wondering if I could be excused from the presentation because I don’t like to talk in front of large groups.”
“I’m sorry, Geraldine but public speaking is a valuable skill that is necessary through out your life.”
“But…but, so many things could go wrong.”
“You will be fine, the more you do it, the more comfortable you will become.” “I
