In Flannery O’Connor’s “A Good Man Is Hard to Find”, The Misfit is a kind of savior, one would think of him as a savior, by him killing the grandmother who was racist and a self-centered person. But, The Misfit is as evil as they come. O’Connor sets the tone in the beginning of the story, by using the grandmother. She doesn’t want to go to Florida but to East Tennessee, so she introduces The Misfit, “Here this fellow that calls himself The Misfit is aloose from the Federal Pen and headed towards Florida and you read here what it says he did to these people.” By the grandmother introducing, The Misfit in the beginning of the story informs readers that they will cross paths somewhere in the story. The Misfit battles with good and evil and his resentment toward the world because of his belief in Jesus. He acknowledges that he is not a good man, “I aint the worst in the world neither”. The Misfit can be the worst kind of person, not admitting to his wrong doing or have any guilt about the things he’s done. “I call myself The Misfit, “he said “because I can’t make what all I done wrong fit what all I gone through in punishment. He doesn’t believe in any right or wrong that’s why he doesn’t feel any punishment can ever “fit” the crime. This has a lot to do with his belief, his beliefs in Jesus had him thinking deeply about how he should follow them or not follow. He wants to believe that Jesus was really God.
