Never let anyone stop you from doing what you love. People in this generation more than any other are starting to stand up for what they believe in. Such areas such as racism, violence, and discrimination have decreased over the years, as more and more people stand up to fight against them. For example, there has been much more notice to gender discrimination; women fighting equality with men in schools and workplaces. However, one area that most people seem to forget is in sports. If a girl wanted to play on a guys sport team, would she be allowed? A friend of mine went through this same situation. Emily grew up in a household of three younger brothers, so she tended to lean towards becoming what people call a “tomboy”. She dislike what most young girls like: shopping, playing dress up, and the color pink. Instead, she would rather wrestle with her brothers and play in the dirt. A girl playing baseball? I grew up playing softball, believing the unspoken rule that girls played softball and guys played baseball. However, as we got to know each other more, I realized why she choose to play baseball instead. Being a small five-foot-two girl, the baseball was much easier to throw that the huge softball. However, the main reason was that she grew up playing with these guys and she loved them all like brothers. Seeing her love for the sport and her team, I convinced her to keep with it, to try out for the high school baseball team. We knew this was going to be a big feat, as at our high school, the baseball team was all guys. However, Emily would not let that stop her.
