I really like this quote because I think it’s a great reminder of how lucky we all are to live in Canada. Canada is filled with resources and opportunities that most countries can only dream of. We have happy people, the second highest life expectancy in the world, and great education systems leading people to take on post-secondary education, Canada not only produces the most maple syrup in the world, but is also a great place to actually live in. Sadly, to some, this is not common knowledge. That’s why I think it’s important that we evaluate Canada against the rest of the world. It’s important that we show what we have to offer. But I also want to focus on the positives; I picked to evaluate Canada by its happiness rate because it also shows that Canada is well-functioning and encourages foreigners to immigrate to Canada.
Happiness is important and Canada’s happiness level ranks high. I know from personal experience that if you’re not happy doing what you’re doing, you won’t do it well. To keep a country going, the people of the country all have to contribute. Canada was ranked second best place to live in the whole world by Business Insider so it clearly shows that most people are happy with how they are contributing. Picking Canada’s happiness level shows that Canada is a well-functioning country.
I think using Canada’s high happiness level to evaluate Canada is good because it encourages immigrants to come to Canada from places that have lower rates. I personally believe that immigration improves the economy and Canada as a whole. Studies have even suggested that immigration improves the average life expectancy in Canada. The theory is named the “healthy immigrant effect”. Scientists suspect this to be true because immigration requires being emotionally and physically healthy. Usually, being healthy improves your chances of living longer so immigrants actually might be contributing to our life

Although Canada’s levels are high compared to other countries, there are still a significant amount of people who are unhappy with how their lives are going. It’s important to me that people are happy not only because I have empathy but also because happy people benefit the country. If the government works further in improving people’s lives, it improves the economy which again benefits the people of Canada.
I think it’s important to evaluate Canada based on happiness levels because it shows that Canada is well-functioning, it encourages immigrants to come to Canada, and even though Canada is a pretty happy country in all, the happiness levels show that there are still a number of people who aren’t as happy as the rest of the population, and that needs to be
