Scout started off as an oblivious, obnoxious six year old with no awareness of the real world, to a very mature ten year old with a lot of life lesions demonstrated to her at a very young, inexperienced age. Jem and Scout also grew throughout the novel because when they thought that Boo Radley was a scary monster, he showed them that he was just a very shy man. Most children follow in their parents footsteps, just as Jem and Scout did when they grew up to be like Atticus. Like most children, Jem and Scout start off being naïve and playing childish games.
