How To Struggle In Sonia Nazario's Refugees At Our Door

Many migrants from the Central American region have wanted or attempted to cross the border that connects Mexico to the United States. These attempts are not easy nor are they safe, they train themselves to deal with these obstacles just so that they can reach their destination. The main reasons why it's difficult for migrants to cross the border is because of border control watching over the wall and gangs. These dangerous gangs kill , kidnap, as well as drug and human trafficking. Knowing everything that they could potentially face, they try even more dangerous alternatives. This questions the power of the Mexican government for allowing this and questions why the migrants know the risk and still are willing to travel illegally. Over the past year, Mexico has been trying to cut down on migrants reaching the United States. Although the U.S is providing money to stop this, the Mexican government still hasn't solved the issue because people keep migrating over. Instead of trying to help the migrants and fix the problem they treat them as if they have become “prey”(Nazario). Being that “less than half of 50% of the population get approval rates”(Nazario), migrants get impatient and decide to travel illegally. I also learned from Sonia Nazario, the author of the article “Refugees at Our Door” that many people get close to their destination and then get sent back once getting caught. Nazario spoke about a woman named July who had gone through a devastating experience with her son and brother being killed by a gang. While trying to do the correct process for becoming legal, she was rejected and the process took too long. July then attempted to get the U.S. illegally however she failed and was sent back to the place where the gang was harassing
